I was astounded to discover one of the presidential candidates often wears a shirt that states “If abortions are outlawed, only outlaws will be able to screw around with my husband:. Being that this blog is about affairs, I will focus on the second portion of the saying”’”only outlaws with be able to screw around with my husband”. When leaders show such cavalier attitudes about affairs, it sends a message that ‘affairs’ are acceptable. Given that such leaders influence policy, judges and public opinion, it is no wonder that the justice system does not do its part to stop or punish affairs. Since the leadership tolerates such action, it is no wonder that little is done to discourage or prevent its occurrence. There have been times in history when infidelity was strongly discouraged and laws reflected the seriousness of the act.
I know I sound like a prude in this matter. I know the patters. If you have a drug abuser who wants to get clean, yet still tells jokes containing drug humor, it is only a matter of time before they relapse. Joking about affairs shows a mental acceptance of them along with a total disregard for marriage and the fidelity associated with it. Vulgar humor has long used affairs as subject manner, because it slowly wears away the resistance to affairs and weakens the conscience.
If you are serious about overcoming and preventing affairs, you will need to make some changes in you thinking. Part of that change is to not support those who do not take marriage seriously and to not make careless jokes about affairs. I have seen many spouses take those jokes as “permission” for their infidelity.
Best Regards,
Jeff Murrah
