ABC news recently did a story on open marriages. Open Marriages

For me, the article is a plug for the books that endorse the lifestyle. The angle taken is one of whatever the people enjoy is acceptable. From the viewpoint of a counselor, the insecurities, damaged trust, not to mention health issues have been largely ignored by the article.  The ugly side of affairs is that trust is broken, often for generations. The hurts and emotional damage is immense and in the long run, the brief enjoyment is not worth the long term pain associated with it. Just look at how Gay Talese, one of the authors mentioned lives. He stayed with his wife after his straying. You often have to look at what they do and not what they say. I find the article informative, but misleading and deceptive in that it leaves out a majority of the dangers and the severity of those dangers. It also does not mention all the legal mess associated with divorces related to affairs. If the affairs were so harmless, then why do the courts award such big amounts to the former spouses?

Best Regards,

Jeff Murrah
