In the aftermath of an affair, there is often more action taking place in a person’s head than is occurring in ‘real life’. The scenes of what happened play over and over. The scenarios of what could happen play out with slight adjustments each time. These dramas seem to have a longer life than a big Broadway play. Although they stimulate the mind, they make it hard to function.

Is there a way to stop the drama, to cancel the play to end the movie? There is a way. In order to end the drama, you will need to focus on the present. In my city of residence they have a television news station that advertises ‘eyewitness news’. The ‘eyewitness news’ team show up on site with cameras going. What I try to do is imagine an eyewitness news team showing up in my life. With them showing us, I ask myself the question, “what is really going on?” . I try to consider what do the cameras actually record. By doing that I am able to separate the drama going on in my head from that which is going on around me. Making such a distinction is key in stopping the ‘movies’.

This technique is not as fun and exciting as the movies, but it will help you keep your sanity.

Best Regards,

Jeff Murrah
