A recent story in the news about the DC madam shows how messed up people can actually be. One of the madam’s call girls was also a navy officer. Lt. Commander Rebecca Dickinson had taught at the naval academy as well. The official navy report has her as heading up the food services, although in another report, she taught courses in law and ethics. To be an officer in the navy is an honor. She had advanced through the ranks enough to be an instructor, which indicates she had talent and skills. When those teaching other young officers ethics are themselves engaged is such adulterous behavior, something is wrong. Being a Beatles fan, the story reminded me of the song, “I Should have known better with a girl like you”, since she is in turn teaching others how to conduct themselves. When the instructors concerning ethics are rotten, it says little for the rest of society’s morals.
