It’s not by accident that many people refer to your spouse as ‘your other half’. This phrase is not heard in reference to your friends. It’s reserved for married couples.
One of the reasons for this is that at some level, they understand that the two of you are a union.
Although the term ‘marriage union’ is not always in vogue, the term conveys the idea that there’s a joining of the two of you. The two of you are joined on multiple levels and in many ways.
The two of you may not always understand the union or work like a union, yet it’s there. The fact that you can’t see it doesn’t remove its influence.
As a ‘Union’, the two of you are ‘more than a team’. That means that you hurt when each other are hurting. You develop an awareness and sense of when things are not right, and when they are.
When you and your spouse are in harmony, it feels like the universe is filled with joy, whereas when there’s not harmony, it’ll feel like all hell has broken loose. The amplification of those experiences are part of ‘the union’.
Your marriage is a union, whether you understand it or not. Many problems arise from not knowing or understanding how union works. Things like pride and selfishness bring problems to unions, since by their very nature, they are self focused.
Affairs bring discord into the union. Like a discordant sound, it creates tension that spreads to everything around it. We all need reminders about how a marriage is a union.
That means that repairing the damage done by the affair will need to include bringing back the union and working with the union.
If your marriage union is not what what it should be, trust has likely been damaged along the way. Damaged trust keeps marriage from being what they could be.
