Things you can’t unsee or undo about the Affair

Memes are powerful ways of getting your message across. You’ve heard that one picture is worth a thousand words, well with the right combination of image and words, you can reach millions of people. When memes go viral, they even give the censors at facebook something to worry about.

One of the popular memes deals with when you see something that you can’t unsee. Once you’ve been exposed to the image and it’s message, an indelible mark is made in your brain. The image is burned into your neurons.

I’ve had my share of encountering such images. There’s always a tension between curiosity and wishing I could unsee what I was exposed to. For many years anytime I traveled Interstate 10 near Houston, my mind filled with images of a car wreck my family experienced at Pederson Road.

The image would enter my mind, along with all the associated feelings from that incident. You’d think after all these years, that image would fade.

The power of images, including those you imagine are astounding. Some, like pleasant ones from your childhood, you want to keep around.

There are also some images like those associated with the affair you wish you could purge from your mind. They may even keep you awake at night, or steal whatever positive feelings you still have when around the cheater.

Images change your mood, change your thinking, and construct blinders limiting your ability to consider other options.

You can’t unsee those images or undo the affair. No amount of effort fully erases what was done. The indelible mark is there. There are images that you see or in some cases imagine, that your mind locks onto like a pit bull.

Those images are there permanently. Even medications and electroshock can’t erase them. (Technically, they burn out the memories or block your reaction them, they NEVER erase them).

Although you can’t change what happened, you can take steps that repair the damaged trust. You can’t undo the affair, but you certainly can clean up the damage.

One of the areas damaged by affairs is trust. Trust can be rebuilt when you do it on a solid foundation. When you have the right pieces in place, trust has a solid bedrock to grow on.

Rebuilding trust doesn’t have to be a guessing game. You can know for sure what the pieces are, how to put them together and make them work for you.

In the video, “How Can I Trust You Again?”, I tell you what the foundation of trust is and get that foundation working for you. The two of you can trust each other once again.

Jeff

  1. Ten years after DDay….the same truth applies from Gods instruction to us day to day as before D Day

Renew your mind to what His truth is about you as a saved person believing in Jesus Christ ….to think on the things that He has done and provided by putting on the mind of Christ as provided by the God breathed Word

What does that mean to one who doesn’t know what any if that means?

Well the Bible records what God gave to holy men of God who wrote what God wanted recorded In their own words and then He preserved those words for us despite many attacks upon it

Reading the Bible with trust that it was authored by God who created all things for His purposes …including man is the perspective which leads to learning from Him ….and as one continues we learn Jesus lived and his purpose as a sinless man was to be the “lamb of God which takes away the sin of the world”

Before His death and resurrection for that purpose there was a nation given instruction how to make sacrifices for the remission of sins…..a type or example of the saving act their Messiah would accomplish for the nation of Israel and then they would see the Kingdom of God come upon earth and function as priests to teach the rest of the nations (Gentiles) the wonderful works of God

They rejected Jesus as they did not receive the suffering servant portion of His purpose …they didn’t expect their Messiah to die and they didn’t understand the mystery given to Paul

It was a secret hid in God since the foundation of the world because had the wicked known about the outcome of salvation from the debt of sin that was required of fallen man by a holy God they never would have crucified the Lord and we would all be stuck in our sins without hope and without any way to be reconciled to God

Jesus finished that requirement for anyone who would receive and trust in that truth

So we have much to be able to THINK to override the old mind and it’s images …..

The spirit quickeneth ( makes alive) the flesh PROFITS NOTHING in terms of our need for salvation ….Jesus said in the same scripture context that “my words ARE spirit and they are life ”

Our various scars in life in the fallen world may not disappear for we have a mind which has memories but the hurt we experience from those events is like an old scar….they don’t disappear but they lose their tenderness …they also are proof that we have lived through and in spite of them

In Christ we are “made new creations”

We are told to “Think on these things” all described in scripture as to focus upon Him and His finished work on our behalf which we could not do and could not earn

The various sensations of the reality of what has been done which hurts us is deep and several, but God is faithful to do all that He has told us and will be our ever present help in everything as we lean not upon our own understanding but in all our ways acknowledge ,Him and He will direct our path as we submit to Him

    1. Zaza,

Thank you for your response. The process of ‘renewing the mind’ is critical in overcoming something like an affair. This is one reason why there are so many verses addressing the importance of what you focus your mind and heart on. “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he:” from Proverbs 23:7 is an example of this.

The good part is that our thinking can change. It is not a once warped, always warped situation. There is definitely some power in what you shared about changing the mind.

      Regards,

      Jeff
