In perusing the news, I came across an article excusing infidelity. The article is entitled Infidelity is just human. The author views humans as mere animals who give into their primal urges. She views infidelity as part of these primal urges. Although infidels will like such articles, their content is misleading. By justifying the behavior as akin to animal primal urges, she forgets, that animals also kill. If I followed her logic, murder is just giving into one of our primal urges, it is just natural. Fortunately, humans have risen above animal instincts. As humans we do not have to give into our urges just because some one down the street is ‘in heat’. One of the things that make us different from animals is that we can think, reason and rise above animal urges. We can pray, love and forgive because we have a higher side to ourselves besides the animal side of existence.
Animals are also content with caves. As humans, we aspire to construct and build structures that are way beyond caves. We can also build relationships that are above animal levels of existence.
It is may homes that the author, Catherine Deveny wrote this piece as part of one of her comedy routines. Since she is a comedian by trade, it could be a tongue-in-cheek piece.
It is important to think through articles we come across on infidelity. What do they really say? Who is the author? What is their agenda? Can they address the topic with any authority.
