There are times you may have said to yourself “I never signed up for this!” It happens when there are more crises in your life than you feel that you can handle.
At that moment, you’re overwhelmed by the many responsibilities pulling you in different directions. You feel torn by the many loyalties and responsibilities in your life in more directions than Stretch Armstrong.
When those times come, the daily pressures are overwhelming. Another common expression I hear about those times involve the sensation of drowning.
Stuff in your life surrounds you like waves towering over your head. You feel like you are sinking in the midst of those powerful waves.
Typically, these times have more than just the affair. It’s the affair plus all the other challenges.
These times test your loyalties. You find out how strong your marriage vows are. You discover what your true source of strength is.
It’s during these challenging times you discover your ‘true’ stance on affairs, since you may even be tempted by an affair or just ‘running away’ from your responsibilities.
You may say “I never signed up for this!” Your wedding vows didn’t include all this in the fine print. You promised to “love, honor and cherish” but never considered what it costs to do so when times are tough.
Those times also have ways of diminishing your ability to consider any kind of future. You may not even be able to imagine a future of any kind. The crises seem like they’ll go on long into the future.
You may feel blocked from any kind of workable solutions. This leaves you feeling frustrated.
