Time for a new roof?

Today I’m surrounded by the noise of roofers installing a new roof on my home. It’s not only noisy, there are nails, staples, tar paper and shingles laying all around my home. The flurry of activity and noise makes it hard to concentrate. Banging noises, walls shaking, material falling off the roof is not an environment I’m accustomed to. Instead of surround sound, I’m surrounded by distractions.

In removing the old roof, there are surprises. The roofers discovered leaks and soft spots in the decking that I hadn’t been aware of. Most people don’t suspect problems with their roofs until leaks appear and water starts running down the walls. The bad thing is that when that happens, its’ often late in the game.

I’m relieved that they found and repaired the problems areas before they became major headaches. I hadn’t liked the idea of a new roof, yet find myself reassured that I did the right things in having someone check things out. That decision of checking things out was a good thing.

Roofs protect you and your home from the forces of nature. When it’s working, you probably don’t give it a second thought, yet when it has problems, it morphs into a major headache.

Have you given any thought to what covers and protects your marriage? Unless there’s problems, you probably haven’t. It could be that there are weak spots or damaged areas in your relationship that you aren’t even aware of.

So how can you do something about what covers and protects your marriage? One thing you can do is go through the “30 Days to a Better Marriage” program. The ability of each of you to really connect and communicate is part of what covers and protects your marriage.

Assuming that everything is working since the two of you aren’t fighting is a dangerous assumption. There may be damaged areas of your relationship that weakens your marriage. Those weak spots are places where your marriage is vulnerable.

It’s time that you had things checked out. Some simple relationship maintenance leads to huge benefits in terms of security and peace of mind.

Best Regards,

Jeff
