There are real problems that often arise related to affairs. Some like exposure to STD’s are often mentioned. I often encourage the couple to be thoroughly tested when an affair has been discovered. Given the nature of affairs with the massive amounts of deceit and deception, it is not beyond the third party to lie or hide the true status of their health. Although people may look healthy, they could be carriers for various diseases and conditions.
Some of the less publicized effects also include the destruction of the ‘spirit of oneness’. In a marriage, there is a spirit of oneness, of the two people being together in marriage. This spirit is often damaged if not destroyed by an affair.
Another consequence of affairs is the sexual problems an affair produces. It can lead to problems with arousal and performance. Although medications may hide the symptoms, when an affair occurs, there are often changes in the couple’s love life. These problems will not end just because you end the affair. Even when your spouse does not know about the affair, there are damages inflicted on the love life of a marriage by an affair. Such performance issues need to be addressed. Although some will improve as the couple discuss and resolve any underlying issues of intimacy or fears of intimacy. There are some situations where you may need to talk to a health care professional in responding to them. Although there may be no physical damage, the psychological scars of the affair can be long lasting.
These are some of the problems areas that can arise related to an affair. These are often not mentioned or attended to prior to the infidelity, but their effects are very real. These conditions can improve with work.
