Financial Infidelity

A term that has recently hit the public eye is ‘financial infidelity’. In two recent articles, one from Seattle and another from the Eileen Ambrose in Baltimore, the topic of financial infidelity is in the news. Both articles address how with greater frequency, spouses will lie to each other about how family funds are being spent. Financial infidelity does not mean that physical infidelity has occurred. It does mean that some selfishness is underway in the marriage and if left unchecked could develop into some other kind of infidelity. The term infidelity itself means that one is “not loyal”. This is a stark contrast with the Marine slogan “Semper Fidelis” which means always loyal. Loyalty in the bedroom and with the family funds is important to keeping the marriage healthy.
