In working with affairs, I hear many excuses for cheating. You have likely heard many excuses yourself. One of the surprising ones I heard recently was that it was due to thousands of years of natural selection. The person actually said 100,000 years. This is one of those pseudo-scientific sounding excuses. It sounds more like something a university professor would use to excuse their profligacy and seduce attractive students.
This excuse has some high powered-deception behind it. If you deny that this excuse (natural selection) has validity, then they come back at you at how you are ‘unscientific’ or ‘uneducated’. by doing such, they view education and enlightenment as the mass acceptance of their aberrant behaviors. Those who do not accept it are relegated to the ‘unenlightened masses’.
These ‘enlightened’ adulterers forget that for science to be ‘true science’, it has to be an observable phenomena, and subject to objective testing, rather than something taken on faith. Since there is no way to observe human behavior regarding affairs 100,000 years ago, or even 6,000 or 4,000 years. This whole excuse has to be taken on faith, even though they make it sound scientific.
A second “if”, is that this proposal does not explain why some couples are monogamous and others have affairs. If ‘natural selection’ were the driving force, affairs would be the norm for marriages. Cheating, swapping and other behavior would be the rule of the day.
A third “if” is that with natural selection, the couple would tend to monogamy in order to reduce venereal diseases, rather than weaken the species through profligate sexuality. Those members of the species who sleep with anyone and everyone end up with greater exposure to diseases rather than less. In the years prior to penicillin, the fear of such diseases is what kept many people from sleeping around.
When a cheater throws ‘natural selection’ as their excuse, there is more bull in your midst than there is radioactivity in Fukishima. They are ‘deep’ in their denial and not open to rational discussion. They are holding onto a faith based fairy story for adults which they expect you to join with them.
