Yes, there are the rewards and special times, yet there is also the strain it places on your marriage. There are many marriage and self-help books out there, yet many of the solutions presented do not apply to your situations and challenges. Marriage with special needs children are often under more pressure than other marriages, as are those where disabilities are involved.

Faith and hope are good things, yet they often run thin at times. The added pressures often need added support and encouragement. When people are under stress, they often feel more desperate and are willing to take more risks. Such risk-taking is good in many ways, yet when those tendencies are applied to affairs, it makes for a dangerous combination. Risk-taking often increases the risk of an affair. High stress increases the risk of an affair.

In dealing with these situations, recognize that the ground rules for you are different. The options that others have are not available for you. This does not mean that your situation is impossible, it means that it is more challenging. You will have to return to the basics of love, trust, time and commitment. You need to spend more time with your spouse than other couples do. Time becomes very important in your situation.
