Blackout Affairs are not just formal events

Back in 1977 I took my first psychology course. Ever since that time, I’ve been knee deep if not deeper in the study or practice of psychology.

Some of the phenomena sparked an interest continuing through today. One of the phenomena that intrigued me was ‘denial’.

Along the way, I’ve seen the effects of denial in many areas of daily life. I’ve seen both the positive and negative effects it brings with it.

One area that intrigued me about denial concerned blackouts. For me, I often wondered how a person could accurately know whether or not they’ve ever experienced a blackout.

Unless someone tells you or you experienced an automobile accident, chances are you are unaware of whether or not you’ve have blackouts. Most people have no hidden agendas when denying experiencing blackouts.

I’ve also encountered situations where an affair occurred during a blackout. As weird as it sounds, this kind of ‘blackout affair’ actually happens.

Although I’ve encountered ‘blackout affairs’, they aren’t common. A close cousin of them are the drug-induced affairs. The drug induced affairs are those involving substances like rohypnol which interferes with recall of events.

These blackout observations taught me lessons about real denial.  Real denial is a far cry from when a cheater lies to your face about what they don’t recall or being fuzzy about what happened.

When ‘blackout affairs’ happen, you’ve got something going on more serious than just giving into temptations. In such cases, something is going on in their brain.

You’ll want the cheater medically evaluated in order to rule out forms of brain dysfunctions. Anytime a blackout is involved, it’s a serious matter.

You’ll also still experience the effects of an affair, regardless of its cause. When the emotions react, they don’t consider what caused the affair.

This is where the “Affair Recovery Workshop” can help you navigate your way through affair recovery. You can know what to do and what to talk about as both of you recover from what happened.

Best Regards,

Jeff
