I wish I never did: The relationship mulligan

It was when learning to golf, I was introduced to the world of ‘Mulligans‘. Although people talk about getting second chances, ‘Mulligans’ were a real bona fide do over.

In golf, my mulligans changed the game for me. They made my golf experience enjoyable.

Although mulligans work in golf, they don’t work so well for marriages. Some people don’t even want to consider any kind of do-over with their relationships.

I was reminded of this when I read a readers comment regarding trust, “Just a suggestion, don’t get married in the first place…. I wish I never did”.

His comment left me wondering what happened that left him feeling that way. Affairs, divorces and damaged marriages can do that to you.  They can leave you feeling awfully bitter.

They can leave you feeling like your heart was ripped out with sheer, brute force. The person who made you the happiest now makes you most miserable. I thought that if anyone needed a mulligan, it would be him.

The hurt of damaged relationships can leave you regretting ever having gotten close to someone in the first place. It can leave you very bitter.

It changes how you look at yourself, how you deal with relationships and your ability to trust.

If, on the other hand, you want some way of doing things over, there’s hope. There is a way of getting a relationship mulligan. That way is by rebuilding your marriage relationship.

Perhaps you damaged the trust or perhaps your loved one messed up. Whether it was you or them, there are things you can do. One thing you can do is forgive.

You may have heard that you need to forgive, but do you know how it’s done?

Do you know how to forgive and ‘what’ to forgive?

Has anyone ever walked you step by step through how to forgive?

If you aren’t sure how to forgive or where to start, the video “Forgiveness: Stop the pain, tear down the walls, remove the roadblocks” guides you through forgiveness.

There are things you can do that reduce the bitterness inside of you, and this is one of them.

Best Regards,

Jeff
