Handling the desire for revenge

Yesterday my post focused on revenge. After writing it, I realized that it left an important consideration unanswered.

Although the desire for revenge is natural, an important concern is “What do I do with the feelings for revenge?”

Since the desire for revenge is powerful, the feelings can be overwhelming. Although I suggested redirecting your feelings during those times, some of you need a more hands on answer.

You’re left stewing in some strong emotions and want answers about what to do with them. Hard feelings requires some hard answers.

The hard answer is that you’ll eventually need to forgive them. This doesn’t mean that you approve of what they did or condone what happened in any way.

Forgiveness isn’t about letting them off the hook. It’s not about approving what they did.

If that’s what you thought forgiveness was about, then you’ve got some things to learn about forgiveness.

Forgiveness is also something you don’t rush into. Forgiving too early creates big problems and puts you in emotional binds.

My experience is that too many times people learn their ideas about forgiveness from hallmark movies and television shows. They’re designed for entertainment and programming, not for your healing.

This means they give you answers that provide quickie band aids and emotional highs rather than significant healing. The media quickly resolves the tensions without giving you solid answers or how-to’s.

In the video “Forgiveness: Stop the Pain, Tear down the Walls and Remove the Roadblocks” I address what’s involved in the healing kind of forgiveness. You need some real answers

I’m not saying it’s easy. Real healing isn’t easy.

Keeping It Real,
