“My truth is better than yours!”

How are you going to handle things when either the cheater or the lover tell you that their truth is better than yours. Although the whole idea of competing truths sounds far-fetched, it happens quite often.

The competing truths show up when you start “calling them out” on what they’re doing. When you start speaking the truth, they bring up their version of truth and use it to counter your version.

When you start standing up, calling them out on what they did, what kind of relationship they’re having or how their cheating defines who they are is typically when you see it. The conviction of facing what they’ve been denying is overwhelming to them.

Don’t be surprised when they dismiss what you say as “your truth” or “your version of the truth.“They may even use the phrase ‘my truth‘ which is a dead giveaway alerting you that there are competing truths at work.

At those moments, they are saying that they believe their version of the truth is better than yours. They are dismissing what you said to them. If you feel shut out and disrespected at those times, it’s because you and what you said is being devalued.

During those times, it’s important to not waste your time trying to convince them about whose ‘truth’ is better. It’s also important that you don’t allow their propaganda to enter your mind without detoxifying it.

In my video on dealing with the affair crisis, I point out the importance of ‘telling yourself the truth’. You know what the facts are. When you know the facts and where they lead, you’ve got to quit fooling yourself.

Truth is the sense you make of the facts. When you connect the facts, you have a truth you need to acknowledge. It may leave you feeling bad, but you need to face it.

You weren’t the only one fooling yourself. The cheater is still fooling themselves with their version of ‘truth’. They’ll need an awakening as well.

Before you speak your truth, you’ve got to know what it is. When you’re ready to start telling yourself the truth, watch the “Overcoming the Affair Crisis” video. It will help prepare you for those times.
