The risk that comes with business trips

Although it has been a while since my last business trip, it made an impression. At my hotel was a massive gathering of teenage girls. They lined the halls and public places of the hotel.

When I say massive, I am referring to over 1,000 of them. When you put over 1,000 teenage girls in a hotel, it impacts the estrogen levels of the surroundings. There was not only noise, there was a massive overflowing of teenage hormones. They paraded around in provocative clothing, perfume and teen enthusiasm.

Every morning, they had a gathering that included singing and clapping. When you have that many girls singing and clapping, the sound resonated through the bottom floors of the hotel.

The gathering included a huge dance, which meant formals and some indecent dresses as well, that make ‘little black dresses’ look conservative. There was a noticeable shift of increased energy associated with the event.

The security for the event was tight, with chaperones and guards everywhere. The girls were excited and well-behaved for the most part. It was an experience I will never forget.

I thought to myself about the risks associated with than many teenage girls in a hotel. There’s something about being out of town that gives people permission to take greater risks and do things they wouldn’t normally do.

I suspect that was behind them wearing some of the outfits they wore. There were no parents watching, so “Why not?” If they wore attire like that, I wondered if they took relationship risks as well.

The whole experience had me thinking and examining the risk of affairs on business trips. When you’re away from your spouse in a strange city, surrounded by temptations and exhausted or bored from the long day of business the risks for an affair are there.

If teenage girls are tempted to do things when not being watched, what’s there stopping your spouse from taking risks?

When you add the flow of alcohol and stress of meetings, the risk is even higher. In a strange city, there is the whispering in your ear of “Who’s going to know?”

According to one survey, 36% of respondents said that they had affairs on business trips. Think about that for a moment. This amounts to 1 in 3 business trips included an affair.

The numbers indicate that the risk of affairs on business trips is higher than when they are at home. When your spouse makes multiple business trips each year, the odds continue mounting against your marriage.
