Affairs are on the rise in the UK, and so is the guilt

In a recent article in the Scotsman, researchers are finding that affairs are on the increase. The increase in affairs is not surprising to most people. The other part of the article, where it discuses how the guilt related to affairs is difficult for those involved in what I find noteworthy. Despite all the ‘free love’ and ‘open marriage’ advocates that say that humans are basically polyamorous, the reality is that they can not handle it. If humans were as free loving as the critics claim, then there would not be the guilt reactions associated with their actions. They would feel no guilt if they did nothing wrong. Humans innately know that the loyalty they promise to their spouse is something that should not be violated. The broken promises and violation of norms, spiritual laws and religious teachings is recognized across most cultures.

The guilt can be overwhelming for those involved in affairs. It is suggested that the recent suicide death of the police chief of Manchester was due to guilt associated with his reported affairs. If you are faced with this situation, get help. Reach out and call someone that can help you get through the situation and get your life back together.
