New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is in the midst of controversy, amidst the discovery of his using a prostitute. There is some speculation that he may resign his office in the aftermath of this disclosure. He and his wife were both emotionally shaken up by the disclosure.
The prostitute episode occurred as part of a business trip to Washington. Many spouses, both male and female fall prey to temptations while on business trips. For some spouses, being away from home and the watchful eyes of their partners is just to tempting for them to refuse. Elected and government officials seem to have some added vulnerabilities to infidelity due in part to the power relationships that they are often involved with.
