But I’m a Christian!

Although the religious teachings of Christianity do not approve of affairs, the followers of Christ are human. Being human, they fall to the same temptations as others do. This includes affairs. They can fall into an affair just like anyone else. For that matter, any person of a religious orientation can fall prey to an affair as well.

The challenge is often getting out of the affair. The guilt and shame of the affair are a heavy burden. Although the acceptance of the religious community is needed during such times, those caught up in affairs often find themselves being ostracized and condemned. When they need support and encouragement, they receive condemnation. It is not up to the church or religious body to approve affairs by any means, although helping people recover from them is needed.

Affairs are painful for everyone they touch, from the church,to the communities, to the families, to the people themselves. The challenges of affairs force people to challenge their values, their morals, their convictions boundaries and their willingness to forgive.
