Is it any wonder there are problems with adultery?

When I saw this news article out of Atlanta, I was shocked.  In Cobb County, (Campbell Middle School) there have been concerns about State mandated homework being sent home that condones polygamy. When presented to the district, they were apologetic at concerns raised by parents and claimed that the handout was mandated by the State of Georgia.

As a counselor, it is often a challenge dealing with infidelity with adults, yet to find out that the school (and the State of Georgia) is promoting polygamy, I asked myself “Is it any wonder there are problems with adultery?” It is bad enough that the Playboy mentality has sunk into many Hollywood movies and television shows. Now parents have to contend with their children being presented material condoning polygamy. Putting out the fire of infidelity on the front end while having the schools promote multiple wives is self-defeating.

There are many cheaters who actually believe they can service many people, they can have multiple lovers and that would have nothing wrong with polygamy being promoted. Many of you hurting spouses know what a monster it is to confront such a mindset. You do not need the schools sneaking in and planting seeds that it is fine and dandy to have a few wives or few husbands.

It is silly to battle with the Ashley Madison and Playboy mentality, while the school is sneaking in and promoting polygamy. If you hope to defeat the adultery mindset, you have to fight it on all fronts. The acceptance of any mindset that is not one man-one woman  eventually will weaken your marriage. You do not need values being re-shaped behind your back during such a challenge.

Perhaps the increase in divorce rates for Atlanta (In 2003, the national divorce rate in Georgia was 3.2 per 1,000 people, compared with 5.5 in 1990. This figure is still below the national average of 3.6 per 1,000 people ) are due to other factors, since Atlanta was the #10 of the top ten unhappiest cities in the US in a 2011 study. It will be interesting to see how the attacks on values impacts the rates of infidelity and divorce in the years to come.
