The burden of secrets

I recently read an article on the physical consequences of keeping secrets. Researchers are finding that keeping secrets often has physical consequences, which may explain what you have been going through. Keeping the secrets often carries with it a sense of being ‘weighed down’. My own thought is that weight related issues often have secrets associated with their origin. The findings of the researchers convince me further that affairs are life threatening. When you need all the strength you can muster and all your wits, you do not need the added burden of secrets. Relationally, secrets also create barriers to intimacy. When you combine the two factors of being more alone and feeling more burdened, it operates like a one-two punch that you may not be able to handle.

This is one of the reasons that the first part of my book, ‘Survive Your Partner’s Affair” focuses on the need for improving your self care. Secrets by both you and the cheater often have a way of transforming from emotional/relational matters into physical symptoms. The more serious the secret, the more serious the symptoms.

You do not have to carry around the weight of those secrets. You can begin taking steps to improve yourself mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually today.

Best Regards,

Jeffrey Murrah
