Allowing time to heal

When you are struggling through an affair, even simple questions can become hard for you to deal with. When your mind and heart are overloaded, any task that requires concentration or attention becomes a struggle. During such times, you are doing well to keep you head above water. You are not ready for sprints, races or marathons. It is during such times that you need to give yourself time to heal. Emotions often take longer to heal than broken bones, yet do not show the visible signs of broken-ness. This is part of what makes it harder to give yourself time to heal. You may look alright on the outside, yet on the inside your a mess. Before jumping into things that are too strenuous, allow healing to happen.

I was reminded of this when I saw a tweet that proclaimed, “The stuff you do while you’re procrastinating is what you should be doing for the rest of your life.” This has applications for your time to heal. You need to allow yourself to do things and take time out to do things that allow healing. That may mean avoiding major decisions. it may mean giving yourself time to sit. It may mean allowing yourself time to ‘be numb’.

Part of healing also involves giving yourself permission to heal. You may have to let go of the expectation that you have to be perfect or be superhuman. Healing is when you allow yourself to be human, to allow yourself time to feel, time to think, time to breathe. A healed version of you will perform better in the long run than the hurting version of you.
