There are lessons to be learned from the marketing of affairs. When the affair inducing ads ask you “Why pay for an escort?”, they are appealing to your pocketbook.
The question already presumes that you are willing to sleep around. They want to draw attention to how much it’s costing you, then direct you to having an affair with one of their members. Their solution to the problem of the cost of an escort is to ‘have an affair’.
The real problem is NOT the cost of the escort. It is that you are considering extramarital sexual relations in the first place. Consider if they asked the question “What is an affair going to cost you?” your response would be very different.
If they gave you the price tag in terms of health cost, loss of marriage cost, cost of therapy, cost of potential divorce, etc. You would look at it all very differently.
The affair pimps know that. That’s why they want to draw your attention only to the cost of hiring an escort.They know what Wal-Mart knows…cheap prices bring business. They know that some people are only interested in immediate gratification at the lowest price.
They know that those same people don’t consider the quality of the goods, or long term maintenance or warranties. They only want something cheap they can use and throw away.
The problem is that when it comes to affairs, you can’t throw everything away.
When you compare the cost of hiring an escort versus the cost of hooking up with one of their members you draw a conclusion that it is cheaper to hook up. The REAL cost is hidden from you on purpose.
The price of the escort is about tricking your mind into thinking that you ‘got a deal’. There are no good deals when it comes to affairs.
Although everyone loves ‘getting a deal’, there are none to be had. By focusing you attention on the cost of the escort, you are only looking at the cost of the down payment.
There are many car dealers that will sell you cars for low down payments as well. Such scams are always about getting you ‘on the hook’ for something more expensive in the long run.
In the case of affairs, you are ‘on the hook’ for a long time. The price tag of those ‘hook ups’ is often more than you can afford. Imagine if the affair pimps used the slogan “Play disease roulette with our whores”.
The appeal would not be so wonderful. Or even “Gamble your marriage with our gals”. Such slogans would be more truthful. Rather than be truthful, it is more alluring to use the seductive “Why pay for an escort?” Even the choice of the word ‘escort is misleading.
This is the modern version of the old Biblical term “hire of a harlot”. But it the affair pimps used the phrase “Why pay the hire of a harlot?”, it would echo back to Biblical terms and may stir up guilt on your part.
Make no mistake, the affair pimps are working you over with such ads.
