Professions prone to cheat

Some of you may wonder if there are professions prone to cheat. You may wonder if there is something about a spouse’s job that puts them directly into the furnace of temptation.

The answer is “yes”. There are some professions where cheating is more likely to occur than others. Cheating is by no means limited to these professions, yet there is a higher incidence in these professions than others.

According to a report by Brian Rop which he claims is based on research conducted by Victoria Milan (an infidelity dating site) the following are the professions most prone to cheating.

“1. Financial (brokers, bankers, analysts)

Although the study does not mention politicians and law enforcement, by own experience is that these are also professions prone to cheating.

You may wonder, “What do these professions have in common besides a tendency to cheat?.”

One thing they have in common is that many are power positions. By ‘power positions’, those in these professions have more power or influence than joe public. Many of them are respected positions. What often happens is that that respect can easily be sexualized.

When people in those professions are celebrities, the risk of affairs is even higher. The higher the profile, the greater the risk, the greater the temptation.

Your spouse may not be innately tempted toward affairs, it could be that the temptations they face in their profession is more than they can handle. Although some professions prepare their aspiring new stars for such pressures, some don’t.

In the field of counseling at the time I went to school, the risk of counter-transference was emphasized. The danger of being in a field where you can influence people and the dangers of abusing that influence were stressed.  Besides being warned, laws were enacted to keep the boundaries in place. Many states have laws against counselors sleeping with clients.

Although such laws are in place for psychologists and counselors, similar laws have never been enacted for psychiatrists. The mixed message often had me wondering if the medical profession was at times protecting this dark side of their profession.

Those in the arts and nightlife are unique in that if you are in those professions, the qualities of self-expression and late hours put you in high risk situations. The danger of high risk situations is one of the dangers of affair relapse. (If you want to know more about affair relapse, I address this in the Affair Relapse Webinar).

I would also include musicians in with the arts and nightlife bunch, since they often live in the overlap of those areas. The tawdry tales of musicians and groupies have long been known.

The area of finance is notable in that the flow of money is involved. Fast money often becomes a temptation for fast living. Although highly fictionalized, the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” is a perfect illustration of this phenomena.

Although the novel “Coffee, Tea or Me?” has now been relegated to adult fiction, the free wheeling and exciting world of aviation has a long history of being filled with temptations.  The risk of infidelity often increases within professions involving travel and frequently staying in hotels.

You also see fast money with used car dealers and drug dealers as well. There is something about when money is exchanging hands quickly that brings arousal with it. With that arousal is the temptation for affairs.

So yes, there are some professions that are more prone to cheat than others.

Best Regards,

Jeff

  1. Should have known when my husband entered the world of high finance
I thought what a great opportunity for him to reach people for Christ

Instead it drew the kind of people who live nothing but money

As the Word says “the LOVE of money is the root of all evil”

Material wealth is good if it is not the goal and foundation for choices

That business draws people mostly driven by greed..if not at first it and its usual community is prone to slid into what feels good to the flesh no matter who gets hurt….and all sin steals….kills and destroys

Not only those who willfully commit it

But the collateral damage is beyond comprehension

The Bible tells the truth to warn us

But the world press’s into those who are not secure in their knowledge of the Word and lax in their relationship with Christ or don’t know Him at all Nd they are not equipped to deal with temptation

Today many don’t believe what the Bible says about sin…and the pulpit doesn’t often tell of sin the devil or hell

It’s an abomination to say the least

There is life in Jesus Christ alone
