Medication and Relationship Problems

One of the game changers in my life happened when I found a medication that helps me with my occasional migraine headaches. If you have ever had the experience of spending hours in pain with a migraine, you know the torment.

I found myself tossing for hours trying to find a position that just hurt less than the other ones.  During those moments my mind focuses on the pain and any other issues just don’t matter.

On finding a medication that worked, it gave me some new found freedom. I was no longer a prisoner or migraines when they happen.

Medications can change many things. They provide you with a way of living with symptoms which previously were hard to live with.

Although medications can do many wonderful things these days, they have limitations. There are things that medications don’t fix.

One of the things that medications can’t fix are your relationship problems. I like the way that the nationally known therapist, Peggy Papp put it, “Depression medication does not solve relationship problems.”

I agree with her on this one. I’d also add my own corollary “Alcohol as medication dis-solves relationships”. Once again, it doesn’t solve anything, only dis-solves it.

Alcohol makes relationship problems worse.

If you’ve been wondering why your depression medication aren’t helping your relationship issues, it was never designed to. Thinking it will isn’t going to make it happen either.

Medications aren’t designed for fixing relationship problems. They may change your mood, the amount of hair you have or your state of arousal, but that is NOT your relationship problem. They don’t fix relationships.

Relationship problems require relationship solutions, much like medical problems require medical solutions and dental problems require dental solutions. These are not mix and match items.

So when the affair happens, you’ve got a relationship problem. That problem needs relationship solutions, not medications.

At Restored Lifestyle, you can find relationship solutions to your relationship problems.  The sooner you join us, the sooner you’ll no longer be a prisoner of your relationship problems.

Relationship problems require relationship answers.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
