The lesson of a failed bank robbery

In the summer of 1973, the convict Jan-Erick Olsson found himself out on parole. While on parole he came up with an idea for robbing the one of the largest banks in Sweden.

The robbery didn’t go as planned. When his initial plan of gaining wealth didn’t work, he found himself in a desperate situation. He selected four bank employees and held them hostage in the bank vault.

He wanted to exchange them for his imprisoned friend, who he knew would be able to find a way out of the situation. The hostage situation dragged on for six days.

Once the hostage crisis was resolved, the authorities now faced a dilemma. None of the hostages were willing to testify against the bank robber.  This didn’t make sense to them.

What really sent the authorities into confusion and didn’t make sense at the time was that the former hostages began raising money for the bank robber’s defense.

This failed bank robbery of Jan-Erick Olsson and its outcome has lessons for you in dealing with the affair.

This whole episode is when the world began using the term “Stockholm Syndrome” in explaining what happened to the hostages. This incident shows the power of the bonds that form during a trauma.

Those bonds can have people, including you doing things you never thought you would. You may find yourself doing things that don’t make sense to others or yourself, yet you feel you must do them.

Trauma bonds can be powerful enough to turn a loving spouse into someone you don’t recognize. Look what they did with Jan-Erick.

When you are facing something with that kind of power, you’ll want to know how to deal with it and break its’ hold on you or your spouse.

In the January Special Report, entitled “Trauma Bonds: The Ties that Choke and Bind” I address what causes these bonds and what you can do in breaking their impact. The report is going out to members of the Restored Lifestyle site. If you are facing an affair situation where trauma bonds are involved, you still have time to sign up.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
