“Should I date during separation?”

Although my wish for most couples to work out their affair related concerns, things don’t always turn out that way. When things don’t work out, the options of separation or divorce are forced on you.

You face questions and options you never wanted to.

One of the concerns that come with those options is whether you should start dating during the separation time. Opinions vary on ways of dealing with this issue. This leads to emotional struggles when the dating topic comes up.

My thoughts on this matter is that the best option is avoiding the appearance of impropriety. During this time you’re vulnerable. Putting yourself in a potentially compromising situation during that time is asking for trouble.

I know you have needs, I also know you need emotional healing. Your heart needs a time for adjustment before you start stirring up passions.

When you’re a single parent, you’re even more vulnerable. You want a spouse and playmate at the same time.

Dating during separation also has a way of cementing the distance between you and your spouse. It makes the distancing very real and semi-permanent. It sends a message that the door is shut to any hope of reconciliation.

Although waiting until things are finalized isn’t fun, that time will allow your heart to heal. That time also protects you from jumping into another unhealthy relationship. If you found ‘true love’, it won’t mind waiting until things are settled.

I also know that you need to heal before starting another relationship. Rushing into another relationship before finally healing only invites wounds to be re-opened.

One of the areas needing healing is that of trust. The wounds you have will impact trust in future relationships. The more healing you allow, the healthier your relationships will be.

In my video on “How Can I Trust You Again?” I deal with trust and ways of rebuilding it. You may not want to trust your spouse, but you need to be able to trust yourself and others once again.

Knowing how to have healthy trust really does make a difference. Just click and download the video today. Start healing rather than running from the hurts.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
