Those with common sense would know the answer to this question. Sadly, many times people in the midst of promiscuous lifestyles do not recognize what common sense when it confronts them. The mental gymnastics performed to justify actions like swinging also serve to blind them to the reality of affair dynamics. In responding to the question, yes swinging is an affair. Even when it is mutually agreed upon it is a form of infidelity. Those involved have been disloyal to the vows they promised as part of their wedding vows. Although the excuse is given that no one was hurt, the reality is that many are hurt. The damage done to the moral fabric of the people involved and their families is tremendous. Because such activity is so ritualized, stimulating, and extreme, it often numbs the participants to the moral reality of what has occurred. In engaging in such behavior, loyalty shifts from a fidelity to one’s marriage/spouse and is transferred to self-gratification. Indulging in one’s own sensual gratification replaces the bonds that had held the couple together. Make no mistake, the strength of bonding is there. It is not by coincidence that ancient Greek and Middle Eastern religions often used sexuality to keep their supplicants loyal to them. The more sex, the more loyalty. Swinging is a lifestyle that will keep the participants in a perpetual bondage through more sex. The loyalty to sex grows stronger than the loyalty to ones spouse.
