The Ashley Madison Mindset

The Ashley Madison group is know for its advertising of ‘Life is Short, Have an affair” or “Bored with Life, Have an affair”. These catchy phrase has raised eyebrows and created controversy in the cities where it has been plastered across billboards. They reportedly cater to those people who want “sex on the side”.

So besides condoning adultery what is the Ashley Madison mindset? The Ashely Madison mindset is one of hedonism, pure and simple. It caters to fleshly lusts. Besides encouraging people to give into those lusts, it also presents the idea that cheating will ‘fix’ everything. If anything, cheating creates more problems, but given the way that cheaters react rather than think, they do not consider the long-term consequences of their actions. Ashley Madison knows this and caters to it.

If there was truth in advertising, the billboards would instead show people infected with communicable diseases, lawyer bills, judges, death threats, crying children and battered spouses. The Ashley Madison mindset is not new, consider the old Schiltz beer advertisement, “You only go around once in life”. Ashley Madison in many ways is nothing more than a refinement of that same sentiment. Madison wants people to only think short term. They want people to obtain instant gratification.

In an ironic statement, the CEO Noel Bitterman is quoted as saying “If my wife were using my service, or any dating service, or if I even found her on Facebook chatting with former boyfriends and not telling me about it, I would be emotionally hurt beyond belief, and would feel that our relationship had severe problems”.

If the CEO does not encourage his own spouse to use his services, tit raises questions about how much they believe in their own services. It should bother you that the CEO does not use his own product in his own home. That says plenty about the true impact of this service. Can you imagine an executive at Ford not driving one of their own products?

Like the snake in the garden of Eden, the ‘snake’ of the Ashley Madison mindset poses a threat to all marriages, and presents its temptation with smooth words and a catchy ad campaign.

  1. Ashley MAdison is by far the worst website ever created. My husband has cheated on me for close to 2 years and has met over a 100 women from this awful site.it has nearly destroyed our marriage.it has left me doubting myself as a wife.I strongly urge anyone who is interested in joining that site to stay away from it.

    1. Jessie,

I agree with you 100%. The site and similar ones are life-threatening and destructive to marriages. I find it ironic that the founder of the service will not allow his wife to use the site/services. When a business owner does not even use his own services, you know something is wrong—dreadfully wrong.
