Disabilities and affairs

The hurt of affairs do not respect race, creed, intelligence, money or disabilities. Affairs cut across all these areas bringing pain, loneliness, isolation, arguments and hurt with it. One tragic group are those with disabilities which have been struck with affairs. Those struggling with disabilities often have their hands full. When an affair happens, it can be overwhelming. In some cases, the spouse with the disability is the cheater and in other cases, the care-taking spouse is the cheater.

The disability itself is used as an ‘excuse’ for the cheating. When it is the care-taker, they often rationalize the disability as an excuse for them to have the affair using such catchwords as ‘since I am ‘human’ I have needs’. Rather than caring for their spouse, they justify servicing themselves. Yes, they do have needs, desires and passions. Finding solutions to those passions are not always easy. Even though they are not easy, when dealing with the topic of affairs, there needs to be honesty. Honesty in terms of needs (both theirs and the person with disabilities), solutions, and the nature of their relationship.

Using the disability as an excuse for infidelity is not honest. Such situations often requires some extensive time talking about what real needs and perceived needs are. Before acting on impulse, it is important to discuss matters with your spouse.
