Been Hurt? Take it to court!

One of the down sides to American culture is that the answer to almost any hurt is ‘sue the daylights’ out of those that hurt us, even if it is your own spouse. Rather than work through the hurts and problems, the legal culture often uses divorce and legal proceedings as the preferred option when it comes to dealing with your differences.

Does taking them to court fix anything? The simple answer is ‘NO’. You may feel like you obtained your revenge, yet it leaves your family in shambles, your bank account drained, your children and parents resentful (or for some vindictive parents, happy as all get out due to finally getting their revenge through you). If you have children, you will still have to deal with your spouse, only now you are no longer in control. Yes, the lawyer may tell you that you have rights and power, but that is also an illusion when it comes to broken families.

The massive use of litigation for some couples amounts to nothing more than taking their fighting to another level, with more expensive venues. The only persons who gain from the break-up of your family are the lawyers, unless your marriage was a life or death situation where you had to leave due to threats against you or your children. In those cases, you gained by preserving your life.

The first answer to the problem of affairs for many people is ‘litigation’. If divorce is the solution, then the problem is bigger than the affair.  I mention this now, since January is around the corner and that month has the biggest divorce filing day.
