Affairs and Science, part IV

In the areas of science focused on neurological functioning, there are some interesting findings when it comes to affairs. One is the rise of Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD).

The prevalence of this disorder is so prevalent, that Evan Schwartz of wired magazine suggested that ADD may be “the official brain syndrome of the information age“.

When a disorder is increasing in terms of the numbers of people that have it, you  want to understand a few things about ADD and its relation to affairs. With ADD, the modus operandi of those afflicted becomes, “Do it quick” or “Make it Fast”.

With all the emphasis on speed and quickness, there is no time for processing of information or thinking through choices. When someone with ADD encounters a potential cheating situation, they react quickly.

They opt for the quick solution rather than the right one. Since cheaters don’t think through their choices, they make bad ones.

ADD makes those afflicted with it more prone to make impulsive choices without regard for consequences. It doesn’t make them bad people, just people who don’t think through the consequences of their choices.

When ADD is involved, those afflicted will not want to ‘listen’ to what others have to say. They will want to hurry things up and move on. This will make any warnings or talking through issues chaotic at best.

When you have people that do not want to listen, you can not easily ‘talk things out’. Those with ADD do not think out, they do not talk out, ..they act out.

ADD is also a problem that’s not going away. The faster our pace of life along with the faster people are processing information are creating more demand on your brain.

This increased demand forces your brain to change its wiring. You have to change your wiring just to ‘keep up’. This switching and rewiring contributes to the development of ADD.

Another factor contributing to the increase of ADD is multi-tasking. When you multi-task, something has to give and it is usually your focus and processing.

Between the increased speed of handling information and multi-tasking, you are more prone to developing Attention related problems, if not full blown ADD. Throw the unknown variable of diet, exposure of various unknown chemicals and stimulants and the fire of ADD is fueled to new heights.

When you are trying to think faster, do more and do it all faster, your brain can not handle it. You will shift into another mode of operation. While in that mode, you likely become more passive and are vulnerable to flirting and manipulation.

Many companies are counting on this and base their advertising on this situation. They want to overwhelm you and increase the influence they have on your choices and behavior. Seducers are also hoping to take advantage of such situations.

This is another area where science can help you understand more about affairs and their potential risk.

If you spouse has ADD you may have a higher risk of affairs than non-ADD spouses. When that happens, the downloadable “Affair Recovery Workshop” provides you with the tools you need in recovery.

Approaching the situation in the wrong way creates unnecessary arguments and conflict. That doesn’t have to happen to you and your marriage.

Best Regards,

Jeff
