Remembering to breathe during recovery from the Affair

As you begin making it through recovery from your spouse’s affair, there will be moments of peace. If nothing else, there may be moments of relief that you’re journeying out of the nightmare.

The pain and hurt is overwhelming. They seem like they go on forever. The reality is they don’t last forever. The dark curtain they bring into your life gets pulled back from time to time.

Whenever you have a moment of peace, it’s time for you to catch your breath, pause and enjoy it. Some of you ruin these brief moments by filling them with hurts, plans for revenge or starting fights.

These peaceful moments are too rare to waste doing such things. Even if the moment of peace is just everyone taking a break, use that break to breathe.

There’s always plenty of things that you ‘could’ be doing. When an affair happens, there’s always something needing correction, repaired or tended to. When there’s a moment of rest, you need to tend to yourself.

Wearing yourself out in ‘fixing’ it all on your own does no one any good, especially yourself. In those moments, stop and breathe.

Breathe slowly and calmly. With each breath, take your breathing deeper.

I mention breathing for a simple reason. When you are busy, you are likely forgetting to breathe in a healthy way. Calm breathing helps clear your head, center you, along with regaining your health and sanity, one breath at a time.

If you’re too busy talking to breathe, now is a time to make some changes. Stop and breathe. During that moment, you can gather your thoughts. You can reflect. You can regain some composure.

Seizing a moment of peace and using it to breathe is a good way to take care of yourself during the recovery process. You may not have considered breathing as part of affair recovery, but it is.

Breathing and self care are so important, I start the downloadable “Affair Recovery Workshop” program focusing on those topics. Learning ways of caring for yourself is the best place for starting affair recovery.

If you thought the first task, was playing detective, there’s a good reason you’re stressed. You started at the wrong place.

Breathe.

Best Regards,

Jeff
