Mosquitoes and Affair Relapse

A problem with living near coastal areas or large bodies of fresh water is dealing with mosquitoes. No matter what new tricks you try in stopping them, there always seems to be few that get by, if not a whole lot.

Over time you find a few favorites mosquito repellents that you believe work better than others. These favorites vary region by region and sometimes family by family. I suspect that someone in each group tried several things until they either gave up or found something they believe works better than other products.

The whole season of summer you find yourself fighting with them. When they finally disperse, it’s not that you’ve defeated them, they are merely regrouping for next year. Mosquitoes are a pest I’ve learned to deal with and tolerate.

One of the pests associated with affairs is temptation. No matter how hard you search for solutions, it always comes back around in one form or another.

The challenge with temptation is that you have to develop a wide range of dealing with it. Although some temptations are similar, most of the time, temptations change their approach and hit you or your spouse in a new way.

Temptation, like mosquitoes find you wherever you’re at. They find any crack or crevice you overlooked. There are no insecticides when it comes to temptation. Sure, you can pray, and it lasts for a while, but temptations are patient. They wait until you’re tired, or vulnerable in some way.

Another quirk about temptation is that once you give into it, it’s harder to get rid of the next time. It’s not hopeless, it requires learning ways of saying “NO” and meaning it.

Mosquitoes also share another quality with temptation. They can both be potential carriers of things that can make you sick. So you may win a round with them, but the poison they left behind can end up doing further damage.

Moral of the story? You need a strong relapse prevention plan in order to deal with temptations. Chances are you’ll need it again and again in dealing with the threats. In the “Preventing Affair Relapse” video, temptations, triggers and times when you are most vulnerable are just some of the topics covered.

You may have gotten past the affair, but have you successfully gotten past temptations and the risk of relapse?

best Regards,

Jeff
