Infidelity Hurts Awareness Day

Today, may 5 2018 is the “Infidelity Hurts Awareness Day.” Although it’s not marked on everyone’s calendar, this is the day set aside for bringing awareness to this painful issue.

Infidelity not only hurts, it disrupts lives. The disruption is large scale. The pain of infidelity is more than an inconvenience.

The disruption happens on many levels from the social down to the cellular. Patterns are changed for you from how you do things down to your daily cycles and heart rate.

When something happens that disrupts on so many levels, it screams for your attention. It amounts to emotional and spiritual earthquakes happening in families across the world.

It doesn’t surprise me when I read of spouses killing their cheating partner with acid or dismembering them in other nations. The passion is real.

What disturbs me is the lack of outcry in other nations. Why aren’t they reacting in a similar manner. The destruction is similar, so why no similar reactions?

The answer lies with the normalization of affairs. In the west, affairs have become a normalized routine. They are viewed as something that just happens.

Telling someone whose world was rocked in a major way that ‘it just something that happens’ is bizarre. It amounts to a surreal moment.

Normalizing what just happened sends the message that discounts their whole experience and existence. It’s a crazy making gesture.

It’s a twisted double-message to say they matter, yet discount their experience. The cheater may say you are crazy, yet the message they just sent you is what is truly bizarre.

You are doing yourself a dis-service when you dismiss what happened.

One of the best things you can do is start working on recovery from the affair, starting with yourself. Admit the pain to yourself. It also helps if you admit it to others as well.

One place to start is with the support community at Restored Lifestyle. There you can share what happened and the disruption it brought with others and learn ways of dealing with it.

Best Regards,

Jeff
