Dangerous Women and Affairs

Back in the 90’s one of the positions I held was that of a program director in an in-patient facility. Working in that capacity had me dealing with nurses, doctors, emergency room technicians and marketing staff.

I often found myself rushing from one meeting to another, each with totally different topics and agendas. My mind was switching from one gear to another on the fly. At times it was exhilarating and at others, it was overwhelming.

One of the experiences from that time that sticks with me were the reactions on the face of the staff and patients when our resident sexual addiction specialist, Harry Schaumburg, arrived on the unit. From the moment he stepped off the elevator everyone took notice.

The message was ‘someone has some serious problems’.  There was a sense of excitement and danger on his arrival. You could feel it through the whole unit. I could tell by the reactions of the staff when he was around.

In the 90’s not everyone was handling sexual addictions or even understanding them. We were fortunate to recognize the issue when we did.

The staff and myself were always eager to hear his presentations. Our knowledge in this area was limited, so we took in all the information we could.

Sexual addictions remain a huge problem. Some affairs are driven more by addictive behaviors than they are by a rejection of spouses or dis-solution of their marriage.

There are many signs that such addicts have, yet one stuck out in my mind. The male sex addicts looked for the dangerous women. In their minds, the more dangerous, the better.

A rational person would view a ‘dangerous woman’ as trouble and walk away. Not so with the addict.

They only feel alive when there is fear. The rush of adrenaline that comes with the fear make these kinds of women the candy they crave.

They feel more alive, the more dangerous the situation is.

When you’re dealing with addictive behavior, having an affair relapse plan is a must. As a member of the support community at Restored Lifestyle, you have access of the video on Overcoming Affair Relapse as one of the benefits of membership.

I invite you to join today and start doing something about the affair rather than just talking about it.

Knowing what you need in a good relapse prevention plan makes a huge difference in breaking the cycles of their addiction.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
