Your marriage is in a high-risk state for infidelity right now. You may think that since the two of you have been doing the shelter-in-place that the risk of an affair is low.
The shelter limits the opportunities, but that doesn’t mean that the risk of an affair is low.
What makes things ‘high risk’ are the problems and losses that came with the shelter-in-place. They’ve lost freedom, financial opportunities and maybe more.
If there’s been friction between the two of you, the risk is even greater. It’s no surprise that reports of domestic violence are increasing with the shelter-in-place.
When either of you are hurting, dealing with loss or feeling overwhelmed, you’re going to be wanting some comfort and distraction from those issues.
Those loses and problems put your spouse in a headspace where they’re wanting comfort while feeling desperate and out of control. Since they strayed once before, the risk is greater that they’ll do it again.
The more threatened they feel, the greater the risk.
Instead of ignoring those dangers or thinking “this too will pass”, this is a time for action. Ignoring them or downplaying them won’t remove the threats.
These are threats requiring your involvement. With the threats, there’s also opportunities. You have the opportunity of addressing these areas in a meaningful way.
You can open up communication on a level that hasn’t been there before. The danger also present new possibilities as well.
