Lessons from old castle walls

One of the things I enjoy doing is visiting old archeological sites. It’s not that I think I’ll find some new artifact there, instead it’s about learning from the past.

My  travels have taken me to numerous ruins, sites and old battlefields. One that stands out is Finavon Castle in Scotland.

When I went, there were read warning signs posted all around the site. The old structures and moss covered walls remain, yet are of questionable stability.

One thing that stood out about this castle are the prophesies concerning it.  Thomas the Rhymer prophesied:

“When Finehaven Castle rins to sand,
The warld’s end is near at hand”

In wandering around the castle, I pondered the events that happened there. Just about every old castle in Scotland has stories associated with them. There are even rumors that this old castle is haunted.

There’s no telling how many hundreds of years the walls have been teetering and unsound. That observation started me thinking.

You never know how much longer the leaning walls will last. How much more life do they have in them?

How many of you live your life in fear and unsound footing? Like the crumbling castle wall, you live with the fear of more affairs or some other affair mishap occurring.

You wonder if the walls around your marriage will protect you still. You wonder if you can count on your spouse to remain with you.

You wonder if the security of your marriage will protect you if there’s another affair.

Living with that kind of fear on a daily basis will wear you out. Eventually the stress of that kind of uncertainty takes its toll on you.

The fear itself inflicts as much damage as an actual affair in some ways.

The years have worn down the walls of Finavon castle that carries the prophecy of the world’s ending. The years have worn down your own health as well along with the end of your marriage.

If you were a member of the Restored Lifestyle community, you’d have access to the video “Overcoming Affair Trauma”. You’d know ways of repairing what worry has worn down.

Those old castle ruins still contain lessons that touch our lives today.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
