Law of the Harvest and Juliet

One of the universal laws is known as the law of harvest (or the law of sowing and reaping’). You  reap the harvest of what you plant.  What that means for your marriage is that when you sow a harvest by celebrating and supporting abnormal behaviors, you’ll reap a crop of abnormal behaviors.

You cann’t follow every trendy pressure group, victims group, university movement or facebook group devoted to what is popular and expect your marriage to not be touched.

If those things really matter, they’ll touch your marriage, in either a good way or a bad way. Your marriage will be impacted by your actions, who you support and what causes you follow. For example, you can’t idolize a philanderer and then expect your marriage to not be impacted.

When your walls are adorned with philanderers, it attracts more of them. When you surround yourself with them, it’s only a matter of time. You may excuse putting the philanderers on display claiming, “They are pop culture icons”. No amount of excuses takes away their cheating.

When you make a cheater an idol, you’ll encourage more of what they did. In the case of cheating, it will bring about more cheating. The more you adorn your home with photos and memoirs of the cheater, it attracts MORE of what they were about. This is the “Law of the Harvest” or as some refer to it, ‘karma’.

On a recent trip to Europe, I was reminded of this. In Munich, there is a statue of Juliet of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ fame. The local legend is that when you put flowers in her hand or touch her breast, you will experience ‘undying love’.

This is more of the law of the harvest. People have worn the statue down in some areas seeking their own ‘undying love’. They know that by making a figure of love their own personal hero, it will bring more of it their way.

This brings up the question, “Who are the heroes in your home?”. What qualities are you sowing in your marriage? No one likes the affairs when they come. The time to stop them is BEFORE they happen. One way to stop them from happening is to quit celebrating abnormal behavior, such as affairs.

This is just one way of improving your marriage. I cover more of them in the”30 Days to a Better Marriage” program.

Best Regards,

Jeff
