When a cheater is in the midst of their affair, they often engage in deception with all its smoke and mirrors to keep you distracted while they dote on their lover. In some cases, they distract their lover as well to keep them from noticing the attention and attachment to you. With relationships, you and the lover both want the cheater to be wholly committed to a special relationship. What each of you believe is the special relationship is what differs.
Since the cheater is doing their best to distract, this is also a time when they are most vulnerable to be found out. Now is the time to see “what is behind the curtain”. Since they are working to deceive you, this is a time to listen with your gut rather than with the sentimentality of your heart. Flowers and chocolates are nice, yet they may be hiding something if your spouse is cheating. What is more important is their time. Look at how they are spending their time.
