Whose law are you operating by?

In posing the question ‘Whose law are you operating by?’ I hope to get you thinking. People often have their own ‘law’ which they use in judging and assessing their actions. They often use their personal law rather than God’s law or even any resemblance of the natural law of relationships. They may even cite the Bible, Torah or Koran in what they do. In the case of adulterers, anytime they refer to religious writings, they are taking something out of context in order to justify what they have done. By citing the religious ‘authority’ they emotionally believe that what they are doing is ‘acceptable’. Rather than honestly look at the marriage relationship in the whole context of the religious law, they take out some quotable portion of it to ‘justify’ what they did or what they are doing.

In such cases, they fool themselves. The cheater thinks that they are complying with God’s law, when they are actually complying with their own law, which they are hiding behind God’s reputation. If they were truly operating by what Divine law has to say about marital relationships, they would not be having an affair. Adultery is not condoned in any of those legal codes. The only place where infidelity is ‘acceptable’ in within the personal law of the cheaters.

This is important to keep in mind, since cheaters are often experts at bending and twisting laws, including religious laws to say what they want them to say. They will find ways of twisting it to condone what they have done, seduce others and condemn you if you question what they are doing. Since cheaters can be charming and convincing, they will often use those qualities in turning you into an emotional pretzel or leave you feeling like you are a heretic/infidel for questioning them on the adultery issue.

In my e-book on adultery and the Bible, the topic is addressed within the context of various affair and affair type scenarios.
