Is Promiscuity a bad thing?

In reading through the news, I encountered an article where an agency posed the question “Is Promiscuity a bad thing?” . The agency takes the position that it is not a bad thing, which is part of its marketing strategy. Telling people what they want to hear is often used in selling a product, including promiscuity and its by-products. As someone who has been impacted by promiscuity, you know better. You know the pain it brings with it, the health risks it brings with it (increased likelihood of STD’s, increased risk of inflammatory conditions, increased risk of urinary infections, etc.).  You know what it has done to your marriage and your family. You know first-hand the stigma that goes with promiscuity.

I hate the deception of such articles. They encourage readers to indulge and they never address the many complications that develop. They do not mention the chemical bonding and emotional bonding that occurs, and the impact that multiple partners has on a person. People are not lego blocks that can be joined and unjoined at will and without consequences. I also hate how in many cases such articles are used by cheaters to justify what they do. It also encourages many young men and women to enter a lifestyle that will promote more cheating rather than one that helps build stronger marriages. It weakens morals and families.

Am I saying promiscuity is a bad thing? Yes. It unleashes forces which for many become destructive. It destroys morals, self-respect, puts your health at risk, tarnishes your reputation and messes with your head. You do not need more confusion and mixed feelings to complicate an affair situation. You need clear thinking. You need moral resolve. You need a relational commitment. You need strength. Promiscuity poisons each of these.

Be aware of the danger posed by such thinking. Sex can be energizing and revitalizing, yet when used outside of marriage, that same energy and vitalizing becomes perverted and often torments those who fall for the lies.
