Of Sluts and Whoredogs

You live in a strange time. In today’s culture, morals are mocked and selfish indulgences are celebrated. Marriage is now viewed as restrictive, and betraying your spouse and friends is viewed as liberating.

There’s something seriously wrong with this kind of thinking. How can one night with a slut or skirt chasing whoredog bring ‘liberation’ and ‘freedom’?

If people were being honest with you, you would be able to see the strings attached to the lover. Strings of broken marriage, emotional suffering, insecurity, disease, mental instability, jealously, and high court costs.

Instead, the cheater surrounds themselves in the seductive fragrances of their perfume or aftershave, the contours of their body, and the emotional excitement. They think that the affair will bring new life instead of the mortifying of their own life that is happening before their eyes.

When society celebrates such indulgences, there is a word for it. That word is “sick” (unhealthy, dysfunctional, diseased, etc.). That illicit relationship that you think promises “Freedom!” is instead bringing chains of bondage and misery.

Although you can’t see it, your position with the lover only lasts until another lover with more money or fancier sexual tricks or more attractiveness comes along. Rest assured that in ‘getting into their pants, that you are not the first to do so, nor will you be the last’.

Modern society also wants you to think in the ‘heat of the moment’. With shouts of “YOLO!” (You only live once), cheaters excuse their acts.

When you think ‘in the moment’, the focus becomes you and your own sensations. You are not looking at the big picture or the long-term consequences of your choices.

Your choices impacts others. Your actions will echo through the ages when you make good choices. When you make poor choices, if you are lucky, people will totally ignore you once you are dead and gone.

It’s more likely that future generations will speak ill of you and how you lived. They will likely view the cry of “YOLO!” as the equivalent of “I am hereby selfish and stupid!” or maybe “You Only Laugh Once” (in terms of you had your fun and now it is time to get on with real life).

Trying to fit in with today’s hip culture and society is a sure way to become a loser, since the values are so fickle, with a sensate focus and indulgent mindset. There are few lasting qualities worth admiring in many areas of popular culture.

If you are caught up in trying to be cool in modern culture, you can still turn your life around. Culture has a way of seducing many of us. Rather than mindlessly just ‘going along’, it may be time to realize that you are worth making some changes.

You may even begin seeing the sluts and whoredogs for who and what they are. When you see through the illusions, making good choices becomes much easier.
