Trucking, Lot Lizards and Affairs

Long before CB radios and convoys reached the attention of the public, I knew about trucking. In fact when the “Keep on Trucking” shirts came out, they said something totally different to me than their intended audiences.

As a child one of the experiences I enjoyed was traveling with one of my grandfathers in his big rig. There was a thrill to sitting up so high and taking in all the sights and sounds of trucking.

Although it wasn’t fast, there was a thrill to the feel of power under you as the truck moved through the gears. It was also enjoyable seeing the sights and places from the vantage point of the cab.

I knew about convoys, county mounties and CB radios long before my peers did. I grew up with trucks.

It was early in life I learned about Peterbuilts, K-Whoppers and the many other trucks on the road. While other kids learned about Mustangs and Mopar muscle cars, I was learning about trucks.

From those early experiences I have a soft spot in my heart for truckers. They face many unique temptations and challenges when they are long haul drivers.

Although my young eyes didn’t view truck stops as dens of iniquity, they were always places filled with activity. It’s no surprise that homewreckers take full advantage of lonely truckers. I’m not saying truckers are saints, yet when you are tired and hungry, the strength of your resistance is weakened.

Given that trucks now have beds and cabins in them, it makes secret rendezvous easier. There’s even a term for those homewreckers who work truck stops looking for whoever they can. The term is ‘lot lizards’.

Although the term ‘lot lizard’ is new to me, the dangers faced by truckers isn’t. The many hours on the road with nothing to look at but the road leaves many minds restless and looking for some stimulation.

The need for stimulation, being tired and being hungry is a trifecta for those seeking affairs or affair relapse.  When there are too many factors against you, it’s only a matter of time before most people succumb.

This means that when your spouse is  a trucker or long-distance salesman, some extra precautions are needed in preventing affairs.

Although each profession and vocation has its’ own affair dangers, I understand the dangers faced by truckers from first hand experiences.

When you need someone who understand the challenges you face or the special temptations, you need a support group. Some spouses understand those challenges, yet it takes time and understanding the unique situations to fully understand what you’re facing.

With the support community at Restored Lifestyle, you’ll find others who struggle with unique challenges. There you can share strategies and ways of handling your situation.

There I share five unique challenges that put truckers and long distance salesmen at higher risks for affairs.  When you know the risks, you can develop strategies for reducing the dangers.

Keeping It Real,

Jeff
