There are times I wonder if the ads on television about numerous drugs are better classified as marketing or propaganda. The companies making them spend millions on those ads. The images and wording are crafted in such a way as to sell you fantasies about a life you ‘could’ have.
They show couples or parents and children all in some state of activity. They all seem to be enjoying their lives symptom free. It’s a wonderful world that those actors live in, filled with smiling faces and people overcoming their handicaps.
One of the many problems with these professionally crafted ads is that it trains your mind. The wording and images are carefully scripted.
Your mind starts thinking that all you need for your problems is the ‘right medication’.
You start believing that with that ‘right medication’ you’re life will be enjoyable again. You start wanting the life shown in the commercials.
Your mind sees those magic medications work for cholesterol, skin problems, birth control, arthritis and a host of other issues. It thinks, “Why not a magic medication for recovery from an affair?” You wonder “Why not me?”
Like the list of side effects and dangers, they should warn you that “Medication isn’t going to push you into recovery“. There’s no magic way of suddenly turning things around when you’re dealing with an affair.
The reality is that your mind feels let down. You want the fantasy life being promoted in the ads. You wonder why you can’t have those things as well. This is the diabolical genius of those ads.
They leave you feeling disappointed that you don’t have the problem they have solutions for. Your mind starts wanting a quick fix magic pill for the affair. You start thinking that a quick fix is possible.
The burdens you carry aren’t going to remove themselves or be erased with medication. It will take choices and following through with exercises to get there. You can recover from the affair, although it won’t be through the magic medications.
