Although many of you are concerned with getting through the affair situation, today I will address what you need in your marriage after the affair situation is resolved.
While going through affair recovery, the two of you engage in serious work on your marriage relationship. That journey touches on many areas such as trust, intimacy, honesty and tough love.
When the recovery part of the journey is over and the two of you are back in relationship will you know what your marriage needs?
Instead of distancing and shutting down, the two of you need connection with each other. At that point, you need healthy communication. The two of you need to communicate often and well.
Let me repeat that. You need to communicate both often and well. It takes frequent communication along with good clear communication. Having one while neglecting the other leaves the door open to problems.
You may be telling each other a lot, but if it’s not clear, it amounts to talking without connecting. Your communication is about more than just getting your point across.
It’s also about attention, focus and letting your spouse into your heart and head. More happens in your relationship when the two of you have frequent and clear communication with each other.
When your communication is healthy, it’s something you look forward to. It’s energizing. You find yourself actually wanting to talk to each other.
If you dread talking to your spouse, or don’t feel energized in talking with them, your communication may not be either healthy enough or frequent enough.
