Scars from a narcissistic controlling spouse

There are times when you feel alone in your pain. This is especially true when your support system is minimal or non-existent.

In today’s world, I’m encountering larger numbers of you who have little to no support system. The limited social supports make recovery a greater struggle.

You really are alone in facing the full force of your situation.

You may never have thought you’d be in this position. It could be that your narcissistic and controlling spouse has alienated you from what friends you had.

They have ways of isolating you from support networks. Any friend that can help, they keep at a distance. They use their charm and persuasion in keeping you isolated.

The whole COVID lockdown makes the whole situation worse. You now have physical isolation along with psychological and social isolation.

Narcissistic and controlling spouses make things more painful than needed. They use their skills in trapping you into the situation. You feel more like a hostage than a spouse.

When you’re faced with being trapped like a hostage your own emotions start being used against you.You start over-reacting to small things and ignoring the big things. It all gets twisted around.

Your narcissistic spouse has ways of saying and doing things that totally twists things around.

At those times your own mind and emotions work against you. It’s at those times, it’s important to trust your gut rather than giving into your fears.

When you do manage escaping the trap you’ve been in, you can start caring for the scars and wounds. Whether you want to admit it or not, what they said and did put scars on your heart and mind.

They managed programming you to believe something that isn’t so. They wanted you to keep the peace at the price of your own safety and sanity.

Getting past this requires giving yourself permission to heal. It also requires help in knowing where to start. Your ability to trust has been mangled beyond recognition.
