Outrunning the speed of thought

One of the issues addressed with artificial intelligence is the ‘speed of thought’. This is one of those topics that inquisitive minds want to know about. Considering that at its core, AI is based on thought processes and how fast they operate.

Some of the researchers in the area of the speed of thought use the calculation of 150 microseconds as the speed of thought. That is phenomenally fast.

Even though the speed of thought is fast, the speed of chemical reactions in your body when faced with traumatic news is faster.

Those fast reactions give you the ability to react quickly. If it’s in the direction of health, that’s good. When those reactions are in the direction of addictions or affairs, it’s a detriment.

Two researchers made an interesting observation in this area. They said, “One of the downsides of our brains … is its tendency to addictive behaviors.

Think about it for a moment.

Your body reacts faster than your thinking does when faced with traumatic news. This means that no matter how clever you think you are or how much you believe in mind over matter, by the time you think of a way to stop the reactions, you’re already too late.

You can’t stop or even slow down the initial reactions. That’s out of your control.

You can only stop or slow down your thinking and what you do after the initial reaction.

This means you can’t stop the initial temptation. You can control how you handle the temptation.

Even though you don’t want to even consider being out of control of your body and mind, the reality is you are. No amount of keeping a calm composure keeps the sudden disruptions in your body from taking place.

The headaches, nausea, loss of appetite, and changes in mood are happening automatically. They are happening whether or not you want them to.

Now that this is established, there are some things you can do.

If you know what to watch for, you’ll realize when these reactions are happening. If nothing else, at least make note of what’s going on in your body. The more detailed the better.

You need to become aware of the extent of your problems and what you are reacting to.

The moment you make the discovery, your body is already reacting. At that point, there is little you can do in stopping the reactions.

When you can do is take actions that reduce the impact and return you to functioning status. There are things you can do in soothing the jarring impact of traumatic news, like that of an affair.

You don’t have to stay in a state of ‘shock and awe’. You don’t have to stay ‘frozen’ in that moment of shock reaction. You don’t have to just suffer through the reactions while in a state of helplessness.

You don’t have to stay ‘out of control’. You can instead start taking steps at taming the reactions going on in your body and mind. Those involuntary reactions can be tamed.

You may not be able to get your old life back, but you can regain control of your own mind, emotions and mood. In the video on “Overcoming Affair Trauma”, I share what trauma is along with what you can start doing about it.
